Reflections from the Director

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”
Sound familiar?  Dickens may not have been foretelling
the global economic crisis of 2008, but his sentiments
resound more than we might wish.  It is true that we are
facing a period of self-reflection as a planet, as a country,
and as individuals.  We must take that often-difficult step
of looking into the mirror to see who we really are and what
really matters in the “big scheme” of things.

From that reflection, we may see the need to care more about our planet and natural
resources, the need to be less divisive as citizens, and the need to carefully re-establish our
moral compass and set healthy priorities.  In turbulent times, our nature is to “hunker down”
and ride out the storm in a safe haven of family and friends.  Oak Hill Academy is a piece of
that safe haven for the students we serve.

I daresay we would all set our children’s health and well being as our top priority, but not too
far down the list would certainly be their education.  Oak Hill’s ability to engage and challenge
children to reach new academic heights will prepare them for a future of problem-solving or
even better – problem-prevention.  It will take individuals who can “think out of the box” to solve
our world’s problems, and our mission at Oak Hill is to foster such people.  We prepare our
bright children not only with a foundation of academics but also strength of character to make
sound decisions.  The resilience they develop from having faced learning differences will
serve them well along their path to adulthood.

In the midst of these turbulent economic times, Oak Hill remains committed to meeting the
needs of children challenged by learning differences.  Every member of the faculty and
administration will continue to focus on that which is central to our mission of reaching and
teaching learning different students.  Providing LD students with the best education possible
remains our priority, and we will not, cannot, waiver from that mission.

Oak Hill Academy realizes the depth of sacrifice parents make in providing an individualized,
specialized education to their gifted children, America’s future.  Our aim is to help our families
plan and provide for the educational needs of their children, and work together with them in
attaining that goal, regardless of the economic climate.

I encourage you to contact the Admissions Department if your child is in need of a safe haven
in which he or she can grow and learn.
