OAK HILL NOW OFFERS TWO INSTRUCTIONAL TRACKS

Having served the needs of students with learning differences and some with developmental delays for more than 24 years, Oak Hill has always been dedicated to unveiling the magnificent minds of students who struggle in mainstream classrooms.  And now we have expanded our model and mission to meet the demand for a program that reaches beyond the needs of students with classic learning differences.

Through our unique new dual track program, a broader range of LD students have the benefit of being served from a more adaptable educational model that can meet their needs.  The  new PRISM program allows us to reach and meet the needs of students with more complex learning differences that are combined with moderate levels of developmental delay.

The GATE program is new in name, but not in practice.  GATE is the speech-language based instructional model Oak Hill Academy has provided with great success over the past 24 years.  The program's emphasis is placed on strengthening reading, writing and math skills, and serves students with classic learninng differences.  Those diagnosed with ADHD, Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorder, Speech-Language Disorder and mild to moderate Sensory Integration Disorder are able to demonstrate their full capacity for learning while receiving the needed intervention to remediate their learning differences.

INVITING ORGANIZED CLASSROOMS

Classrooms reflect each teacher's individuality and creativity, while arranged in a way that provides order and sequence for our students who have weaknesses in those areas.  Oak Hill Academy students benefit from inviting classroom environments planned for the location of each specific area or center.  Using small rugs, color-coding and signage, areas of the classrooms are clearly defined to guide and aid students in their work.

THE GATE MODEL OF INSTRUCTION

Oak Hill Academy prides itself on the design and implementation of its unique curriculum model.  The individual academic strengths and challenges of each student are carefully considered as the teacher formulates an appropriate plan within a course area to enable that student to experience success while being guided to the next level.

The foundation of the Oak Hill model rests within the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and the strength of our model is created from the use of research-based programs such as Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia developed by Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Handwriting Without Tears from Jan Olsen, OTR, LiPS and Visualizing and Verbalizing from Lindamood-Bell, and Texas Mathematics from MacMillan McGraw-Hill.

Within each classroom, grade-level academic curricula is at the core, yet a two-year range of educational activities are available for the advanced student who works above grade level as well as the student who needs additional time to develop his/her skill set.  Our specially trained teachers work with small groups of students, and use a multi-sensory approach to learning.  The daily academic experience is structured for consistency and predictability.
