“True education means showing
our children the role each of us
can play in the betterment of
conditions for children everywhere.”
Pam Quarterman, Executive Director of Oak Hill Academy
The Giving Project

Each fall the Oak Hill Academy community participates in
The Giving Project. The Giving Project is more of a
relationship than a project.  For the 4th consecutive year
teachers, students and their families seek donations and
raise money in order to support our sister school in Port-au-
Prince, Haiti.  Ecole St. Vincent is a school for children
with physical disabilities.  It serves over 400 children as an
orphanage and a day school.  Our donations are used for
scholarships for the students, support for teacher salaries,
and holiday gift bags filled with toiletries, food, school
supplies, and toys.  All the bags are prepared by Oak Hill
students and hand-delivered to St. Vincent’s in December
by Oak Hill staff and members of the Dallas-Haiti Project.
The idea was so simple…what if school children here in Dallas made holiday gifts for the school children
at St. Vincent’s in Port-au-Prince, Haiti?  As so often experienced, it is the simplest of thoughts that can
become the most profound journeys.  Most especially when there are children involved!  It makes no
difference that the Oak Hill Students would probably never meet the St. Vincent children, but somehow it
is often the children that have a better understanding of the true essence of life. To love; no matter the
differences, the geographical boundaries, the level of education or wealth…perhaps the hopes, prayers,
and dreams of all mankind are universally the same.  How true the quote, “it is in giving one receives the
most.”
