On a personal level this is a time of great joy and celebration. For years
I have dreamed of implementing a formal outreach effort aimed at
equipping teachers and parents with special skills required to reach and
teach children with learning differences. The realization of that dream
has come, and it is my pleasure to introduce two new programs offered
by the Community Outreach Department of Oak Hill Academy: PASS
and TACTICS.

PASS
A Parent Training Program
PARENTS ACQUIRING SPECIAL SKILLS
Bringing calm to the chaos of a home impacted by learning differences and developmental
delays can be achieved when the proper strategies for parenting are put in place and
consistently practiced. PASS provides important information about the characteristics of
ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Speech-Language Delay, Sensory Integration Disorder, Autism and
Asperger’s Syndrome. Parents come away with useful information that helps them
understand the challenging behaviors of their children, and special strategies giving them
the critical skills for successfully parenting LD children.
TACTICS
A Teacher Training Program
The Attainment of Creative Techniques
for Inclusion of all Children in all Settings
The objective of Oak Hill Academy’s TACTICS - A Teacher Training Program, is to share an
essential overview of common LD characteristics and proven classroom strategies that
meet the varying needs of children impacted by LD. The training program provides
important information about Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, Speech-Language Delay, Sensory
Integration Disorder, Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome. Trainees come away with useful
information that helps them recognize and understand the challenging behaviors of children
impacted by LD. Now informed, the trained teachers are equipped with the necessary tools
and strategies leading to the successful classroom inclusion of all children.
Both training programs are offered free of charge to preschool, church and other
community groups through the Community Outreach Department of Oak Hill Academy. I
encourage you to share this news with those you know who might be interested in providing
these valuable training opportunities to parents and/or teachers in their workplace or
community. My team and I are ready to reach out!
